Using a weighted tape measurer has not been the most technologically advanced way to monitor the water level of Eastman Lake. But now, thanks to a partnership with Geokon of Lebanon, Eastman is moving into the 21st Century.
Tony Simmonds, an Eastman Member, approached General Manager Ken Ryder and Chief Maintenance Officer Michael Gornnert to discuss installing some of Geokon’s monitoring equipment on the Dudley Orr Dam, which is located on the south end of the lake near the Visitor’s Center.
At no charge to Eastman, this monitoring system allows our staff to monitor the water levels in the dam structure in accordance with the NH dam guidelines. The small solar panel near the dam is needed to control three transmitters.
“Previously, we used a weighted tape measure to estimate water levels,” said Gornnert. “The Geokon sensors will deliver accurate measurements via the web to the Maintenance Department’s log. We are excited to have this opportunity to partner with Geokon and learn about this cutting-edge technology.”
Geokon, Incorporated is located in Lebanon and operates on a worldwide basis through a network of agencies. The company was founded in 1979 and currently has over 90 employees.
