Traffic jam??

Monday, August 15th, 2011

By Lynn Kisselbach

Having now spent a year at Eastman, and having been here through all four seasons, I have noticed (quite naturally) an uptick in traffic and activity in the summer time.  So when I was driving along Road Round Lake last week and commented on the traffic, my visitor darn near busted a gut laughing.

His perspective is Boston, so seeing three cars on the road ahead of us doesn’t even come close to the traffic he sees.  Continue reading…

Things that Go Bump in the Night

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

By Lynn Kisselbach

Generally, Eastman is a very quiet place.  The only “noise” we get are the birds.  I have two species of owls that can make a fair amount of noise at night — a Barred Owl and a Great Horned Owl, which reign over our property.  You can’t miss either one of them.

And so I have been enjoying the peaceful, quiet evenings on the screen porch, reading or visiting with friends.  Sometimes, I just sit and listen Continue reading…

Day tripping at home

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

By Lorie McClory

My husband and I have lived in Eastman with our two children for nearly 16 years. While we’ve been on the lake several times in kayaks, taken the pontoon boat ride during Lake Appreciation Week and been to the beaches more times than we can count, we’ve never kayaked the entire lake or taken time to walk on Heron Island until last weekend.

Despite the weather forecast — 40% chance of showers at 2 and scattered thunderstorms Continue reading…

Eastman celebrates the 4th

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

By Lynn Kisselbach

The skies cleared, the sun shone, the lake warmed up.  The weather was perfect over the long weekend, but especially on Saturday, just in time for the 4th of July festivities at Eastman.  The 4th is a special time at Eastman, where the warm weather draws people outside and together with festivities that everyone enjoys.

It started with a concert by our own Eastmanaires – a very talented singing group comprised of vocalists who live Continue reading…

Eastman’s “Field of Dreams”

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

From Lynn Kisselbach

Build it, and they will come!  I had a lot of those thoughts every time I drove by the beautiful, open space between the Visitor’s Center and the South Cove Activity Center.  Then I volunteered to help out at a road race at Eastman, and met the new Activities Director, Leslie Moses.  Turns out, she was having the same thoughts.  So we put our heads together, mapped out a course, and planned and executed Eastman’s first Splash, Continue reading…

Like a kid in a candy store…

From Lynn Kisselbach

I was looking forward to Memorial Day weekend for quite some time.  My glee regarding an extra day off probably paralleled that of a kid getting out of school for the summer.   Special menus were planned, activities plotted, weather closely watched.  We were armed and ready:  golf clubs – check; kayak paddles – check; bug spray – check; sun screen – well, you get the picture.

The weekend did not disappoint.  We kicked it off with dinner at  Continue reading…

We have been property owners for almost thirty years, and we love it. My kids have grown up here, and now my granddaughter comes in the summer and enjoys it as well.

I had a uniquely fun experience the other day at our wonderful Eastman community.

When I volunteered to be a model for a fundraiser for the Grantham Community Crisis Fund, I did it to help out the community and those who are in need. I Continue reading…

Relaxing weekends at Eastman

Friday, May 27th, 2011

From Lynn Kisselbach
When I wake up on Fridays, the first thing I think of is that I’m headed to Eastman for the weekend.  It definitely makes the start to the day a little more energized.  For the time being, we spend weekdays in Southern New Hampshire and weekends at Eastman.  It’s such an easy trip, it allows us to be there just about any time we’d like to go.

When I wake up at Eastman, I like to listen Continue reading…

Enjoying spring

Friday, May 27th, 2011

From Lynn Kisselbach

After a long, snowy winter, it’s good to see bare ground.  Not that the cross-country skiing wasn’t spectacular all winter, or the snowshoeing for that matter.  But I’m ready for spring.  The ice is off the lake, and the trees are starting to bud and bloom.

My husband and I took a walk down to the lake to check things out.  Our canoe made it through the winter just fine.  We also noticed a great deal of Continue reading…

One of NH’s best golf courses is family friendly

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Our Eastman Links is one of the top NH golf courses and was chosen for the 2010 NH State Amateur Championship.  The course is open and I can’t wait to get in my first round.  One of my favorite things to do is to play with my son – who is now 11.  We play in the afternoon and walk 9 – I don’t want to spoil him with a cart.  The way the front 9 is laid out, it Continue reading…
