Generally, Eastman is a very quiet place. The only “noise” we get are the birds. I have two species of owls
that can make a fair amount of noise at night — a Barred Owl and a Great Horned Owl, which reign over our property. You can’t miss either one of them.
And so I have been enjoying the peaceful, quiet evenings on the screen porch, reading or visiting with friends. Sometimes, I just sit and listen to the wildlife and enjoy the silence.
Since we moved in last July I have heard, on occasion, a moose moving through our property, headed for the lake. But over the last few months, I haven’t heard it, so I had pretty much forgotten
about him/her. That was until the other night, when I happened to be alone, sound asleep. The crashing noise outside my window left me breathless, my heart was pounding. From the depths of slumber, I woke in a panic. What was that big crash? Then I realized – my moose was back!
Once my heart rate returned to normal, I had to laugh. I was imagining the headlines: Woman Scared to Death by Moose, or Woman Mistakes Moose for Prowler. The only prowlers I have experienced at Eastman are moose![singlepic id=121 w=320 h=240 float=]
