Family Fun and Chili: a winning combo!

DH 25 Anniversary LogoSmallThanks to Mother Nature, this year’s Family Winter Fest and Chili Cook-off to benefit David’s House on Saturday, Feb. 19 promises to be a whole lot of fun.

The Family Winter Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eastman Cross Country Center. Enjoy a fun-filled day of outdoor activities for the whole family, including cross country skiing and snowshoeing, body bowling, a scavenger hunt, ice putting, snowball clown toss, tennis ball slingshot, face painting and more. Bring your own skis or snowshoes, or rent ours. The sledding hill is also open, so bring a sled and take a few runs!

Trek inside at noon and warm up at the annual Chili Cook-off, featuring the culinary talents of amateur chefs, and participate in the merchandise raffle.

The entry fee of $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and younger includes use of Eastman’s cross-country trails, all outdoor games and admission to the Chili Cook-off.

“Participants over the years have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for David’s House,” said Charlie Taber, special events coordinator at Eastman Community Association. “We hope people will continue to help us raise money for such a worthy cause.”

In honor of the 25th Anniversary of David’s House (named for David Cyr) and David Cyr’s love of nature, Eastman Recreation is also holding a silent auction of 25 wooden bird feeders that have been uniquely finished by local artists.

“The folks at Eastman never cease to amaze us with their creativity and dedication to raising money for us, and this year is no different!” said Dawn Stanhope, David’s House executive director.

Take a moment to view the bird feeders and, if you see one you like, submit bids from the David’s House website or at the Family Winter Fest. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of Family Winter Fest.

David’s House is a home-away-from-home for families who have children receiving treatment at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. It’s a home where parents and families can stay while giving support to their child and each other.
