Two loon chicks “born” on Eastman Lake
Eastman Lake’s Loon Family has grown this year, with the early July hatching of two chicks. Last year, no chicks hatched successfully due to high water, but this year’s rain had no effect on the nest or eggs.
Amateur photographer Roger Gossett, who lives in Eastman, has taken some wonderful photos of the loon family using his telephoto lens and a bit of patience. Visit our Loons 2009 gallery to see six of the best.
Although Eastman Community is a private community, the lake, golf course, Nordic ski trails and restaurant are open to the public. People are welcome to put in water craft at the public boat launch on Road Round Lake. Per state regulations, the speed limit on Eastman Lake is 10 miles per hour.
